Level 1 - Engine and Emission Control Fundamentals $850.00
This course is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge of engine and emission control theory, design, and operation. The course also provides training in OBD-II diagnostics and provides training on checking OBD-II monitors and verifying the condition of OBD-II readiness. Students who successfully complete this training at a BAR-certified school will have met the first requirement of the BAR training requirements for the smog check inspector license. This course is not required for students who hold ASE or BAR alternative A-6, A-8, and L-1 certifications. This training is designed for inspector candidates with little or no automotive experience. Level 1- training provides students with the training necessary to move forward to level 2 smog check procedures training. The training is a minimum of 68 hours and must be completed at a BAR-certified school. Students must successfully complete a series of hands-on training exercises and pass a written examination.There are no retest fees and all course materials are provided.
Level 2 - Smog Check Procedures Training $350.00
Designed to provide students with the procedural knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform smog check inspections. Students who successfully complete this training course will have met BAR training requirements to take the smog check inspector state licensing examination. This course will cover the following areas: smog program rules and regulations, customer authorization of tests and repairs, identification of vehicles, visual smog inspections and procedures, and smog check functional inspections and procedures. Students will also learn how to safely conduct an emissions test and how to safely calibrate the emissions testing equipment.This training is a minimum of 28 hours and must be completed at a BAR-certified school.There are no retest fees and all course materials are provided.
BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training. $950.00
This new Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training course fulfills part of the California state smog license exam prerequisites. These courses where previously known as the BAR ASE A-6, A-8 and L-1 alternative courses. This course combines all the previous course content in the BAR ASE A-6, A-8, and L-1 alternative courses into one course and also provides additional updated diagnostic information. BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training represents one of four options a repair technician candidate may choose to qualify for the initial state licensing examination. Specifically, candidates with at least two years of engine performance repair experience may complete this training to qualify for the state licensing examination. The training provides students with comprehensive knowledge related to the diagnosis and repair of smog check failures. The training is a minimum of 72 hours and must be completed at a BAR-certified institution. BAR 72 Hour Diagnostic and Repair Training certification is valid for five years from the date of completion. There are no retest fees and all course materials are provided.
BAR Technician Update Training. $220.00
Currently licensed smog check repair technicians are required to complete at least 16 hours of update training every 2 years as a part of their license renewal. This training is intended to provide technicians an avenue of on-going education in automotive technology and the related diagnostic and repair practices. There are no retest fees and all course materials are provided.
Level 1 Citation Course: $200.00
This is a training course designed for licensed smog check inspectors and/or technicians who have been issued an 8 hour citation by the BAR. Courses include lecture, lab, and homework assignments. Level 1 Citation Training is designed to clear level 1 citations from the BAR. Classes will be scheduled according to demand. (Please call 707-521-9363 to schedule)
Level 2 Citation Course: $350.00
This is a training course designed for licensed smog check inspectors and/or technicians who have been issued a 16 hour citation by the BAR. Courses include lecture, lab, and homework assignments.
